RegistryCIRA has issued a registrar advisory that they will only accept pre-registrations for a minimum of 1 year. CIRA then calculates and adds the charges for the additional months from Nov. 1 to the .CA domain's original anniversary date. This forces me to ammend the policy below to conform to their method, which unfortunately makes it substantially more complex.
CIRA will release all .CA domain names not re-registered with CIRA by Feb 1st, after which time all applications will be treated by CIRA as "new".
I recognize and appreciate that this additional cost is especially significant to those who have recently registered their subdomains. To be as fair as I myself possible can be to those whose recent registrations I've handled under the old system, I will handle CIRA pre-registration of existing subdomains I've processed and recently registered at minimal cost to the registrant.
The agreement between UBC|CDNNET and CIRA transfers the CA domain database to CIRA effective August 1, 2000 and the operational transfer to CIRA is scheduled for Nov 1st, so those are the most reasonable dates to use.
I'll personally donate my time to process pre-registrations of existing subdomains I'll have registered for you from Aug 1st to Nov 1st, 2000 for a minimal processing cost of $15+GST for the first year of CIRA registration plus # of months to the anniversary date. You additionally must pay the CIRA fees to retain your subdomain - there's nothing we can do about those.
For those so affected, the total cost for a ONE-year (plus however many months) pre-registration with CIRA will be:
You would then renew your CIRA registration at the end of that resulting term according to whatever rules and rates may be in effect then.
CIRA pre-registrations received by CIRA after Nov. 30th will also require the CIRA "late fee".
