It is with sadness that I need to inform you that Ed Hew, the proprietor of CA Registry (your .CA domain registrar) has passed away recently and as a result his business as a .CA registrar is being closed.
(the following was sent to each domain-holder by CIRA)
If you have not already done so, please make arrangements to have your domains transferred to another CA Registrar. You can find a current list of accredited registrars here: https://www.cira.ca/ca-domains/registrar-list
Transferring is an easy process. Once you have chosen the new registrar, go to their website and look for options to 'transfer in' a domain name. At some point, you will be asked to provide your 'authorization code'. Most registrars will charge a fee to transfer in but note that doing so will add a year to your registration period.
If you choose not to transfer, CIRA will be consolidating the CA Registry portfolio under a CIRA Internal registrar on August 31st. This internal registrar will not allow for the autorenewal of domains. Your domains can still be transferred to a new registrar but if left beyond the expiry period will be deleted.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to our support group by email at firstname.lastname@example.org who can also provide you with the needed authorization code for the transfer.
To make sure your request is expedited as quickly as possible, please include the following in the subject line: 'Domain Name- Auth Code Request'. The authorization code will only be sent to the email address associated with the registrant contact record for your domain for security reasons.
